Physical Therapy Benefits For Back Pain

Updated: Jun 19, 2019

Lower back pain is the second leading cause of why people visit doctors, and this is something quite common in all the adults and older people nowadays. Elder people suffer from this pain because of their age and their bones that have grown weaker, but when it comes to adults, this pain is initiated due to several factors like using too much cell phones, sitting for long hours while using a laptop, bad posture and sometimes weak bones too due to an unhealthy diet. Billions of dollars are spent just on the diagnosis and treatment of lower back pain every year. In a nutshell, it’s high time for people to avoid factors that cause this pain and those who suffer from it, they should opt for physical therapy instead of consuming pain killers and other medicines that are not good for the human body.

Physical therapy is all about focusing on the structure of the spine, joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons. Using medicine can be more effective for treating back pain with the use of physical therapy as well.

For a better understanding, here are some major goals of physical therapy;

➔ It helps in educating people about the importance of stretching and strengthening, which ultimately helps in tissue healing.

➔ It helps teach people about maintaining a proper posture, especially to keep the spine aligned and in position.

➔ It helps in educating people how to rest in a neutral position that’s healthy for the body and the posture too.

➔ Physical therapy also helps in restoring the flexibility of joints, muscles, and it helps with the motion of the spine too.

These are just a few benefits and reasons that explain why you should think for physical therapy. Honestly, there’s a lot more to it, and you should seek professional help as soon as possible when you know that your back pain is getting worse with time.

What To Do When Lower Back Pain Occurs

If you are experiencing lower back pain then instead of thinking about therapy or medication, simply take a rest from any harsh physical activity for a day or two. After some rest, you can then start doing some gentle back exercises for decreasing the pain and restoring mobility. Make sure to maintain a good posture because a bad posture is the main reason why the pain occurs in the first place. Just support the spine with some pillow or roll up a towel whenever you are sitting etc. However, if the pain persists for more than a week and if your back keeps hurting, then visit a physician right away and get started with the physical therapy that you need. Your therapist will first perform an overall checkup of your back, and then once he knows the reason for your back pain, he will then start working on that part of your body.

Overall Verdict

Physical therapy is the most effective way to treat back pain so you shouldn’t have any second thoughts about it because it works, and it’s worth your time and money.
